Getting Up To Speed
So, it's been way too long since the last blog post. What's happened since then?
- I met George Galloway and recorded a speech he gave in Houston with my good friend Luke!
- I DJed an Arab engagement for my favorite family: the Al-Zibdehs! Their eldest daughter is now married!
- I was accepted to UT!
- I got an apartment!
- Got myself an argile :-o
- Saw my friend Brandon's band, The Blue Threads, release their 2nd album!
- Played some volleyball
- Reunited my best friends and our families
- Gave my first sermon: on Hip Hop & Spirituality at North West Community Unitarian Universalist Church. The Blue Threads assisted me with music!

- Moved into my apartment with my good friend Jasdeep, along with Austin, Raf and Kyle
- Got my wisdom teeth removed & saw Mos Def, Jay Electronica & Bun B (all at one show) with Jill and her brother!
- Began classes at UT
- Joined the UT-Palestine Solidarity Committee
- Attended my 1st UT football game as a student
- Celebrated Colleen's birthday in San Marcos!
- Went to more UT football games, met Bevo
- Went to San Antonio and saw Alex :)
- Ate labneh w/ Natalie
- Saw Dead Prez!
- Saw Mos Def again! This time at Austin City Limits music festival
- Kanye'd my History of Rock professor
- Went to San Antonio again!
- Saw my friend Aly in a production of Reefer Madness with our friends Sarah and Christina
- Ate lots of shawarma
- Saw Jay-Z! It was his first time in Austin, and he did a tribute for Pimp C!
- Got to go on the football field with my roommate Austin!
- Was a keynote speaker at the Eyewitness in Gaza conference
- Went to College Station with my dear friend Lauren for the UT-A&M game, guess who won :)
- Smoked mas shisha
- Met Anna Baltzer with my fellow PSC members
- Made some short films:
- edited this Italian short
- Made a music video!
- Saw my sister, Alice, graduate from high school early and in the top 10%!
- Also saw many members of my family
- Smoked more shisha with my friend Jowan
- Celebrated Christmas with family!
- Went to a cocktail party at Farouk Shami's mansion! I attended with my friends Summer, Khaled, Natalie, Scott and Erika. Here, I was reunited with my dear old friend Rania :)
- Went to the Galleria with my friends Khaled and Jesse to mourn the 1300+ Palestinians killed during Israel's offensive a year ago and protest Israel's continued apartheid and ethnic cleansing practices
- Watched The Big Lebowski countless times
- and Rang in the New Year at my apartment in Austin with good friends!
My next blog post will include my New Year's Resolutions and some reflective thoughts on 2009 & 2010!
